About Our Services

What exactly is an end-of-life doula?

An end-of-life doula is a trained companion who provides emotional, physical, and spiritual support to someone approaching the end of life and their loved ones. Unlike medical professionals, doulas don't provide medical care—instead, they offer presence, listening, comfort measures, and guidance to create a peaceful, meaningful end-of-life experience. We honor your values, beliefs, and wishes while supporting your family through this profound transition.

How is doula care different from hospice care?

Hospice is a medical service that manages pain and symptoms for someone with a terminal diagnosis. Doula care is complementary—while hospice handles medical needs, doulas provide emotional and spiritual support, help document legacy, and facilitate meaningful connections. Many families benefit from both services working together.

Do I need a terminal diagnosis to work with you?

No. While end-of-life doula care traditionally supports those with terminal illnesses, our services are broader. We work with anyone navigating end-of-life planning, life celebration planning, legacy storytelling, or seeking deeper conversations about mortality and meaning. Your situation is unique, and we can discuss how Season of Grace can support you.

Can I plan a celebration of life in advance?

Absolutely! Many people find profound meaning in planning their own celebration of life while they're able to articulate their wishes. Celebrations can happen before someone passes, after they've passed, or even years later as a way to honor and remember. There's no "right time" for a celebration of life.

What if I'm not religious? Can you still support me?

Yes. Season of Grace honors all beliefs, worldviews, and spiritual perspectives. We're not here to impose any particular belief system—we're here to support your authentic values and wishes, whether they're deeply religious, secular, spiritual, or something else entirely.

Practical Matters

What does your service cost?

Pricing varies based on the type and scope of service. We offer flexible arrangements and work with families to find solutions that fit their circumstances. Please contact Mary directly to discuss your specific needs and receive a personalized quote.

How much notice do you need?

It depends on the service. For end-of-life doula care, we can often begin working with families quickly, even in urgent situations. For life celebration planning and legacy projects, more advance notice allows for deeper preparation. Contact Mary to discuss your timeline.

What areas do you serve?

Season of Grace is based in Moriarty, NM and serves the surrounding communities. Depending on the service, we may be able to offer support in other areas. Please contact Mary to discuss your location.

Can you work with both the dying person and their family?

Yes. End-of-life doula care supports both the person at the center of the experience and their loved ones. We help families navigate difficult emotions, facilitate important conversations, and ensure everyone's needs are honored throughout the process.

Do you work with other healthcare providers?

Absolutely. We collaborate with hospice teams, palliative care specialists, clergy, therapists, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive, coordinated support. We view ourselves as part of a larger team all working toward the client's wellbeing.

About Death Cafés

Is a Death Café a grief support group?

No, though grieving people are welcome. Death Cafés are about having open conversations on death and dying without agenda. They're not therapy or crisis intervention—they're about normalizing discussions our culture often avoids.

Do I have to talk if I attend?

No. Participation is always optional. Many people find value in simply listening to others' perspectives. You're welcome to share or simply be present—whatever feels right for you.

What if I'm nervous about attending?

That's completely normal. Many first-time attendees feel nervous. Mary creates a welcoming, safe environment where people are treated with respect and dignity. You can always reach out beforehand to talk about what to expect.

How much does it cost to attend?

Death Café gatherings are free and open to everyone. No registration is required, though RSVPs help us prepare.

How do I know if now is the right time to reach out?

If you're asking this question, it's probably the right time. Whether you're in crisis or simply want to explore these conversations, Season of Grace is here to support you. There's no "too early" or "too late." Reach out when something in you says it's time.

Will you judge me or my choices?

Absolutely not. Season of Grace is built on respect for your autonomy and your unique values. Whatever your choices, beliefs, or circumstances, you'll be met with compassion and without judgment.

Can you help if the person is not ready to talk about death?

Yes. We meet people exactly where they are. If someone isn't ready for direct conversations, there are still meaningful ways to work together—through gentle storytelling, legacy projects, or simply providing presence and comfort without pressure.
